Unspecific payment adverts

It would be helpful if filmmakers seeking actors could be specific about the pay rate. Often there is a range such as between £100 and £200 daily. You also see qualifiers such as “up to” or “provisionally“.

Sometimes pay is said to be dependent on the role, but when you look at the particular role that you’re interested in, there is no clarification.

It is not all filmmakers who are unspecific. Many are helpful to actors and are clear about what the remuneration is, and so it does make the postings of those who are not clear somewhat off-putting, which is a shame because they might well be engaged in a very worthy project.

Agreed. I also think twice (then think twice again) before responding to any post which says the role is "Paid" or which quotes and hourly rate without specifying the number of hours involved. Both of these feel evasive and are likely to breach employment guidelines. I suspect that many low-budget and student employers are trying to be honest but are actually putting off the majority of "professional" actors.

Thank you Tony and Frank for commenting. I am glad it is not just me who finds this practice rather off-putting.

Where a pay range is cited I now apply on the basis of being interested in the role at the top end of the range, so there is certainty on the fee if am offered the role.
