Hi Fran,

I'm Dominic. Just watched the trailer and it's certainly something I can (and I'm sure every actor) emphasise with. Luckily I have a blank wall in my flat that I use, but just traffic noise or noise from flats upstairs also poses annoyances.

I'm in pre-production of a short comedy film I've written and will be starring in, it's for new showreel footage.

I've also recently brought a new Rode Mic and really want to discover more voice over work this year, so auditioning for projects and hoping to get that off the ground.

All the best,
Dom

Hey Dom!

Lovely to hear from you and I'm glad you got some good sounding projects on the go!
I definitely recommend the Rode Mic, It's great to have that handy for anything, so much V.O work relies on having you're own set up, especially a mic you can take whilst travelling! It's a great investment!

Looking forward to seeing your projects though, and post a link when they ready! I'll be doing the same tonight, see keep an eye out!! I'm so excited to share it and I hope it makes people laugh!

All the best to you,
Fran x

I just watched it, it’s a lovely little piece. I can well relate. The ending wasn’t what I was expecting, but really fun. Was the delivery truck reversing a stroke of luck? Really nice work, you’ve encapsulating a universal feeling, I hope it gets received well

Oh Francesca, that is absolutely brilliant. I can so resonate with everything. In fact, it would be good to send this to ALL those people on here (and other casting sites) who ask for a self-tape before even looking at any showreels and CVs to whittle it down to match their vision, and maybe, just maybe, they'd realise just how much work goes into a self-tape. Love it.

Yes Toni, so much work goes in that people might forget or disregard. It’s not just the few mins the tape is playing, learning the lines, building character. Waiting for outside noise to be softer. I do try and give myself a rule of getting it done in three takes max, and then move on. But sometimes it takes much longer, but all that matters is what happens between action and cut haha

True Dominic. I have asked Mandy to tell people not to ask for self tapes in the first instance and today, I sent my showreel to a caster explaining what self taping requires. I won’t get a reply of course but I just needed to tell them.

That's great Francesca, congratulations on your achievements.
There are many projects here on Mandy.com, and I have heard from many of the more seasoned actors, that they get more work through this website than other websites, demanding credits etc.
The good thing about short films, is that is gives you a chance to explore your creative abilities more, instead of being stereotyped and always casted in the same or similar roles.
Contact The Screen and Film School Manchester, and go on their books, as they have plenty of short films going.
If you already have a profile here on Mandy.com, register also with pilimilifilms.com and give them the link to your profile when you register with them, and they will be grateful to help you find work.
I have followed you on Instagram, and if you like, you can follow me back.

Hi Sigurjon
Do you get notifications of jobs from Pilimili direct or do you have to look on the site as here?

Hi Toni, I've just registered there over the week-end, as I was doing work at Screen and Film School Manchester, and one of the teachers asked me if I was on their books, I said yes, but that I didn't have an agent to get decent paid work. The teacher then said, that she had a website for actors, and gave me the link.

From what I understood, the website works both ways, producers can seek talent, talent can look for work AND the producers can ask that the seeking be done for them.

Once I know more, I'll share.

Thank Sigurjon, I already have an agent so not looking for a different one but if they act as CDs as well, that would be cool.

Hey guys, Sorry for the late reply, Had a bit of a busy weekend and I needed a bit of time to rest today!

Thank you so much for all the great comments about my piece! It's interesting that "Self Tape" has sparked a conversation about what working actors do to get these jobs, and as much as it is an over exaggeration and meant to be funny, I'm sure at least one of these things has happened to all of us! I like that it's relatable to everyone in the industry, not just actors and I hope it's appreciated for a long time.
Also thank you, Sigurjon, for the advice about pilimilifilms.com, I will look them up :)
