Southampton and Surrounding Areas
Hello everyone,
I was thinking I might start a meet up for Southampton. Somewhere that we can meet up, share stories, tips and perhaps even do the odd read through as a group and see where it goes from there.
I was a part of such a group in LA (of which there are many!) and sometimes when work was really light they would put on their own theatre production.
If anyones interested give me a message.
If you are a member of Equity you may want to explore starting up an Equity branch. The came into being as a way for performers to meet up, network, hear guest speakers and once a year, perhaps propose a motion at ARC, the annual representative conference. In recent years they have also started running workshops. The advantage of being under the umbrella of Equity is that they will pay for room rental to hold meetings and can provide support in other ways, such as sending staff members as guest speakers.
I helped found a branch called Thames Valley West which met at South Hill Park in Bracknell for about 10 years. There is no denying that there is work involved as a branch has to be run properly, with an elected commitee and the like, but if you can gather a decent group of people together there can be all kinds of benefits.
Oh I had student membership of the Cardiff one. But while I’ve had Mandy jobs it’s always a day here a day there and never enough to meet the criteria to join Equity.
