TA agencies

I'm considering not going for permanent work but signing up with agencies for TA work to help my acting career.

Have any other actors done this/ recommend?

Thank you

Hi!
This is what I do, it works really well. I have signed with three agencies, that way I fill my weeks up. Decent money, and oh so flexible! Highly recommend it x

I do supply teaching, and I am with Vision Teaching who also provide TA work; very flexible and friendly too.

You can also try SMART Teachers if anyone is still looking. Loads of actors and flexible. Say I recommended you.

Thanks Philip. The moneys tight sweetie. Trying to stay positive. But had a regular job for 10yrs. Line Manager started bullying me. Was on the point of nervous breakdown. Didn't want to keep going on about it - but I have to put up with the knock on effect now.

Trying to put it behing me and Keep watching inspirtational videos and ways to succed on You Tube but it's hard. :(

HI all,

Been doing this for a while but find I need to take block bookings inorder to make decent money eg. 5 weeks. I've also been offered work for the whole academic year in the same school. Would it be feasible to take long-term work and just alert my agent to the fact that I'm an actress and may need to take time off?
What to other actors do?
Thanks.x

Are you still with a TA agency? I am and I've worked in the same school since January. It works both ways as you don't get paid for half terms and school holidays but they are aware that you might need to run off at the drop of a hat.

Ok so you just let them know & they're happy to arrange cover at short notice? Thanks

Preferably the day before the one you're taking off, ye . Most of my agency is made up of actors so its pretty much understood.

I'm with Teaching Personnel & Sugarman. Also got experience in SEN schools now. Looking to register with more actor friendly agencies in London so if anyone can recommend great. :)

Also what do you do in the hols for money?

Thanks

Smart Teachers are full of actors. Tell them I recommended you. I work exclusively with SEN schools through them. Your main contact is Paula. As for the holidays....its a tricky time. I tutored all through Easter and take up promotions work where necessary.

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me dropping in on your thread Farah, I too am looking for flexible work. Phillip would you mind if I looked into Smart Teachers and said you recommended me? I have no experience with TA work though, will this matter or do they train you?

Protocol told me the schools wanted actors as they expected them to be more animated and creative with the children. Tailor your CV so you highlight any experience you've had with children. Even try some voluntary work - it will be helpful. When they take you on, you'll slowly get more experience and you keep adding this to your CV.
