    We’re recruiting a Technical Stage Manager 

    The Technical Stage Manager is a key member of the team, working closely with the Technical Director, Company Stage Manager and the Producer to deliver on the tour. The Technical Stage Manager will liaise with the Visiting Companies on tour and play a crucial role in supporting all technical elements in the absence of the Technical Director. 



    Roundabout is our tourable, in-the-round, 168-seater auditorium. We’re proud to present outstanding plays by some of the nation’s finest writers in Roundabout along with fantastic guest companies and one-off performances and events.

    REALLY BIG AND REALLY LOUD by Phoebe Eclair-Powell

    Person Specification

    Below is a list of the experience, skills and attributes we’re looking for but we know that not everyone can meet all of them. If you don’t think you have everything on the list but believe you could make a real difference to Paines Plough then we encourage you to make an application. 

    •      Minimum 4 years professional mid to large-scale touring experience, preferably with temporary, demountable structures.

    •      Demonstrable experience of supervising crew during get ins and get outs.

    •      Working knowledge of lighting controls, especially with regards to LED technology and pixel mapping.

    •      Organised yet flexible approach and calm under pressure.

    •      Dedicated and committed with excellent focus and organisational skills.

    •      Ability to be creative and resourceful in problem solving.

    •      Proven ability to work within allocated budgets.

    •      A working knowledge of the ITC/Equity Subsidised Repertory Agreements.

    •      Awareness and experience of health and safety legislation and practice.

    •      Experience of and ability to operate QLab and Programme.

    •      Good and proactive team player, with experience in delivering productions to the highest technical level.

    •      Good working knowledge of industry Health & Safety regulations Experienced in monitoring and enforcing Health & Safety regulations and ideally Health & Safety trained (IOSH certified).

    •      Rigging qualification.

    •      Ability to demonstrate a recognisable level of credibility within the industry.

    •      IT and AutoCAD literate.

    •      Degree in technical theatre practice or equivalent qualification.

    •      First Aid trained. 



    Key Responsibilities -



    SCHEDULES

    •      Create and manage the Technical Stage Manager rota on tour. 

    •      Manage the technical schedule for Paines Plough and Visiting Companies, in consultation with the Producer. 

    •      Strictly monitor and adhere to the weekly schedules as provided by the Producer.

    VISITING COMPANIES 

    •      Administrate Visiting Company technical questionnaires and requirements, reporting weekly to and ensuring these are approved by the Producer and Technical Director. 

    •      Be the first point of contact for all technical questions from Visiting Companies.

    •      Supporting Visiting Companies on tour.

     

    HEALTH & SAFETY AND SECURITY 

    •      Be responsible for safe working methods within the ROUNDABOUT’s specific requirements.

    •      Ensure the safety of public in ROUNDABOUT at all times.  

    •      Ensure ROUNDABOUT complies with regulation fire safety guidelines and is fire safe. 

    •      Report any issues which contravene ROUNDABOUTS Health and Safety procedures in a timely manner to the Technical Director and Producer. 

    •      In conjunction with the Technical team and Company Stage Manager, ensure all equipment, set, props, furniture and dressing are accounted for and kept securely at all times. 

    •      Adhere to Paines Plough’s Health and Safety Policy, undertaking such duties as are required, and ensuring reasonable care is taken to guarantee a healthy and safe working environment.

     

    AUDITORIUM

    •      Take joint responsibility, with the Company Stage Manager, on all aspects of the

    ROUNDABOUT Auditorium whilst on tour, including having sole responsibility for all technical elements of the ROUNDABOUT Auditorium.

    •      Support the Technical Director with fit-up and strike of ROUNDABOUT including lifting and crew work.

    •      Be jointly responsible, with the Company Stage Manager, for the daily power-up and powerdown of ROUNDABOUT.

    •      With the Company Stage Manager, ensure all working and public areas are kept tidy and clear of waste material and equipment is maintained to a safe and proper standard.

    ACCESS

    •      Communicate with Front of House daily on any audience access requirements.

    •      Ensure ROUNDABOUT is accessible by restoring wheelchair spaces in a timely manner and supporting Front of House staff in quick turnarounds between shows.  

    •      Assist in setting up ROUNDABOUT captioning units for any captioned performances.

    ON TOUR

    •      Be the first point of contact for all local technical departments whilst on tour.

    •      Supervise local crew and Technical Managers, training in the use of ROUNDABOUT.

    •      Be the first point of contact for all local technical departments whilst on tour.

    •      As directed by the Producer and, with the Company Stage Manager, take responsibility for the ROUNDABOUT site whilst on tour including maintenance and site dressing.

    •      Support the Company Stage Manager in venue Front of House management as necessary.

    MAINTENANCE 

    •      Complete day to day maintenance-work as required and report any maintenance issues to the Producer and Technical Director.

    •      Ensure tools and all fit-up equipment is kept in a tidy, complete, adequately stocked and secure state at all times and replace any consumable items within budgets and parameters agreed with the Producer.

    •      With the Company Stage Manager, complete any day-to-day maintenance required of the set, props, furniture and dressing for the production, according to the Director and Designer's requirements, within budgets and parameters agreed with the Producer, and ensuring this is completed to a high standard.

    BUDGET

    •      Manage a petty cash budget within parameters set by the Producer and Technical Director. 

    OTHER

    •      Send out a daily ROUNDABOUT Venue Report. 

    •      In the absence of the Company Stage Manager, cover running and/or operating of all Paines Plough productions as per weekly tour schedule and as mutually agreed.

    •      Provide tours to industry and members of the public as requested by the Producer.

    •      Liaise and co-operate with all other departments and individuals within Paines Plough.

    •      Attend production meetings

    •      Act as a credible ambassador for Paines Plough at all times.

    •      Undertake any other appropriate duties which may be allocated by the Producer.

    •      Be an enthusiastic advocate of Paines Plough and have a thorough understanding of the company’s vision, mission and aims.

    •      Uphold and implement Paines Plough's policies and procedures as necessary.   Attachments:
