Mostly within the field of music in opera and musical theatre, but as a regularly performing singer I need to be able to communicate both the words and the character to the audience. I also have an ALCM in Music Theatre.
I've also featured in a promotional film for a company specialising in English language camps for children -
I am a professional singer specialising in classical, contemporary music theatre, opera, pop, rock, jazz and folk. I'm currently researching my PhD at the University of York in Internet recordings and performance development, where I also completed my Master in vocal performance. I'm the lead singer and lyricist for a rock band and am currently a Rock Choir leader in Yorkshire, running and directing contemporary choirs and will be performing with them this year in Liverpool Echo Arena and the 02 in London. I've previously sung for two big bands; NUJO in Newcastle and Generation Groove in Yorkshire. I was also the singer for Ben Beattie and the Jazz Age for two years performance around Yorkshire and featured at the Burton Agnes Jazz Festival. I studied jazz singing with renknowned jazz vocalist Jeri Brown in Montreal for a year. For four years I was a member of progressive vocal group The 24 founded by internationally renowned tenor Dr John Potter, with this group I've had the opportunity to work with several living composers such as Gavin Bryars, Veljo Tormis and Roger Marsh often giving world premieres of new works and touring Germany and China. I've previously been a member of the Northern Sinfonia Chorus and was a member of the chorus for a professional production of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte under the direction of Sir Thomas Allen, and broadcast live on BBC. Commercial recordings include The Bee Symphony on Touch and two recordings with The 24. As a singer I've performed in Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, China as well as the UK. I also have over twenty years experience as an instrumentalist playing the piano, flute, and I offer private tuition in all.
