Interesting past experiences:
I traveled South America for just over 5 months which was the most fun I've ever had in my life. In Bolivia i went on a 'survival course' which consisted of going into the Amazon jungle with just my one guide from the local tribe. The only equipment i could bring were fishing hooks and a machete. With this we had to live off the jungle for 3 nights and 4 days. Over this period i drank from rivers, streams and other questionable water sources. Caught and ate: insects, fish and gathered berries when we found any, we even attempted to hunt a pack of wild boar. The highlight of this experience was being woken up by my guide only to find a wild jaguar 2 or 3 metres away from our makeshift tent staring at us. It finally retreated back into the jungle leaving me slightly bewildered. My guide told me that it was the 4th time in his 20 odd years of doing guides he had seen a wild jaguar at that short distance and i felt privileged. Because of the rarity of the occasion he insisted i grab my machete and we follow it, not to hunt, just to try catch another glimpse of it. He assured me we had to quickly follow its tracks in order try see it again and as i had just woken from a sleep its fair to say i wasn't dressed for the occasion. In the rush i wasn't even allowed to put shoes on! I followed my guide into the jungle with just the one torch to see by and bare feet, boxers, t-shirt and a 30cm machete. It was quite an experience.
