About me
After enjoying the role of an Assistant Stage Manager during my high schools productions of Bugsy Malone and a devised Christmas pantomime, I decided to take theatre studies as one of my options during the International Baccalaureate. It was during my course work for the independent projects portfolio that I was responsible for collaborating on a devised a ten minute performance piece about road safety. This offered me the opportunity to undertake the role of Lighting/Sound Design and Operation. It became clear to me, during this project that the technical side of theatre was a career, and specifically lighting and sound operation, that I wanted to aim for. After school I moved on to college to study Stage Management and Technical Theatre. My current BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts course has developed my knowledge of a range technical production roles within a theatre whilst also introducing me to new ones. During my time on this course I have experienced Stage Management, Lighting Design and Operation, Sound Design and Operation, Set Design and Scenic Construction, Production Management and Prop Making. This course has developed my knowledge and understanding of general production equipment, my practical and team working skills and also my ability to communicate with a range of different performers, directors, choreographers and industry professionals. The opportunities to work on a variety of Drama, Music, Dance and visiting productions has allowed me to further my ambition for a career in technical Lighting and Sound Operation but it has also showed me that I enjoy other roles such as Set Design and Construction and Assistant Stage Management.
