Experience: I have just finished a two year course at Brooklands College, Weybridge studying a BTEC National Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing. During this course I gained many skills especially with my pattern cutting. I now appreciate more about the basics which helps me understand about darts and garment construction, shape and form material manipulation. I have also learnt about screen printing and how art history has influenced fashion throughout the decades. My drawing skills have been improving and I fully understand how to use different materials. I have also been learning how to use computers which designing flat drawings using Illustrator and Photoshop to create patterns.
I am a dedicated worker. I always reach deadlines and I like to try something new and different each time I make a garment. I enjoy challenging myself so I can improve my skills. Outside of the course, I have found my own work experience working in a clothing shops and I have recently had work experience with Rhoda McGaw Theatre in Woking. For two weeks, I worked backstage with the costumes which included fitting and customising some pieces. This gave me a real insight and confirmed what I want to do in the future. This clearly showed me what it would be like working with professionals and it also showed me how much work there is to be done. I also helped one of the lead characters getting ready for a quick change.
Other Relevant Experience: I also did work experience in a clothes shop (Bay Trading). This gave me a chance to see what it was like to work in a new environment and constantly meet new people every day and you got to understand and look at the clothing in more detail and see how they are made.
Every Saturday I help at an Art Club which is for children from 7-12 years and I help come up with ideas about what subject to do every week and I communicate well with all ages that are there. I had been going there myself when I was only 7 and have now helped for a couple of years, this shows my commitment which I give.
Interests: I really love to draw and create new ideas and designs. I really enjoy going to fashion and costume museums which have period clothing and I like art which can give inspiration.
