    About me

I have a degree in theatre arts, specialising in costume, this gave me a base of skills and knowledge to build upon which I have been doing ever since with varied costume work.

I have varied experience of working in a team as part of the company of a theatre production, and as a team aboard cruise ships altering costumes for new casts. I have also worked independently as a costume maker both at home and in workshop environments. I believe this varied experience of both different job roles and locations shows that I am flexible and adaptable.

As Head of Wardrobe, I managed the wardrobe team, scheduling staff and organising their work, depending upon their experience. In this role, I developed good problem solving skills, whether they be costume or personnel related. This often meant the management and adaptation to changing priorities. I have been informed on a number of occasions that my calm, positive, hard-working approach makes me a good team player.

Through my costuming experience, I have learned to balance being confident, approachable, friendly, and a willing to help and support to ensure an effective working environment. My communication skills have also developed in dealing with many directors, performers, wardrobe staff and other heads of departments. Having consistently worked in theatre, I have a good understanding of the other technical departments and how to work with them to ensure a smooth production and a harmonious company.

I have made and worked with a variety of costumes and fabrics, giving me a good base knowledge on how to maintain and launder costumes. Having often worked with unusual costumes and materials, I have developed a good understanding on how to maintain/launder such costumes. I have excellent sewing skills and a good knowledge of sewing machine and overlocker maintenance.

I have spent extended periods of time with single companies, for example my years spent at Rainbow making extremely high quality character costumes. On top of this I regularly return to work for companies' multiple times. I believe this demonstrates my ability, knowledge and attitude to all of the work I undertake.

Having worked in wardrobe, as a costume maker for theatre productions, and to the strict deadlines at Rainbow to meet shipping dates I have learned to work calmly and safely in order to meet those deadlines. My cruise ship experience is also testament to this. Sewing in the hull of a ship, during a storm can be hard work. Having been successful in all of these roles demonstrates my ability under pressure.
