About me
I am a performer and drama teacher with years of experience within the performance industry. I have taught Drama in FE, HE and, most recently, at ACS International School. I also teach private students with 100% success for my students getting on to their course of choice at University or Drama School. My wide knowledge of the industry enables me to offer my services as a workshop co-ordinator to Secondary, FE and HE establishments. In addition I have some vacancies for private students. As a theatre practitioner I am also available as a freelance performer, director and stage manager.Additional skills:
Stage Managing
I have worked behind the scenes in various capacities for many years. At The Rose Theatre, Kingston I was employed variously as a Duty Manager, Stage Door keeper, Box Office Assistant and Wardrobe Assistant. I have also worked for The Costume Workshop on The Isle of Wight. I have trained in make-up for stage and film and run many workshops. I also have experience of running a sound and lighting Desk. Over the past two years I have honed my stage managment skills in six productions at ACS Cobham International School. Most notably the work on "The Accrington Pals" for the High School and "Alice Through the Looking Glass" Where I designed and built both sets and designed and sourced all the costumes, hair and makeup. I also ran the lighting desk for the Accrington Pals and sourced all the sound cues and produced cue sheets etc...
Directing
Background:
Although my background has primarily been on the stage over the last two years I have assistant directed and co directed six productions at ACS Cobham International School. Most notably I directed the Accrington Pals for the High School in November 2013 as part of the Great War commemorations. This was to high acclaim and in July 2014 I took the students and the production to The International Youth Arts Festival in Kingston where again the production received very positive feedback from all who saw it.
Directing Style:
I'm very much a believer in the audience and performer relationship being challenged and I draw my influences from Brecht, Artaud, Shakespeare and Naturalism. I have a passion for History and believe if you are tackling an historical piece, accuracy and detail is imperative. I like to work with my actors as opposed to dictating to them and enjoy ensemble performance. In my view this brings out the best in performers as they are in an environment where they feel they have equal ownership. Egos are left outside the room and the performers are encouraged to support one another in a safe non-judgmental environment.
