Inspired by the Degas painting entitled 'La Coiffure,'(Combing the Hair), this film explores a key turning point in a young girl's life.Her depressed mother attends her daughter's preparations for bed in the same caring, but somewhat detached, way that she has always done, little knowing that her 'little girl' has that day started the path to womanhood.This is not a subject that is normally tackled on film, but is beautifully, bravely, and sensitively handled here.
