When my daughers were very young there was a fantastic version of Nellie the Elephant that was in the charts (It'll be about 20 years ago I think). They loved it, and so did I! Think it was by The Toys or someone.

"The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy" from Thchaikovski's "Nut Cracker Suite"

It always preceeded "Listen With Mother" with Julia Lang and Daphne Oxenford on the BBC's Home Service in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

It is such a haunting melody and little did I know then that I SHOULD have listened to mother a bit more perhaps and chosen a humdrum boring 9-5 job.

Still...optimistically I say "This Nut aint for cracking! LOL!

Mae . i remember it, it was by "toybox" i think

very upbeat and "trumpy trumpy"

my dad was at college at the same time as my mum at the time, and when she was doing her social studies in teh room next to the jewelry workshop. apparently my dad would be singing along to it on the radio, bashing brass to the beat. she would get embarassed 'cos all her classmates would be laughing at this and my mum was like "oh i wonder who it could be..." lol

I loved anything by Cliff Richard (cringe) and the whole upbeat cheesy type music. I loved all musicals and would sing and dance to them all... but fav cartoony type song was Fraggle Rock and Poddington pea "down at the bottom of the garden, among the birds and the bees, a little lot of little people they call the poddington peeas...the poddington peeeeaaas"

Poddington peas is genius! My favorite one (which everyone pulls a blank look whenever I mention it) is '5 little speckle frogs, sat on a speckle log eating some most delicious grubs, yum yum.' Does anyone else remember this one? xx

I hope I didn't dream it! I'm sure one day I'll find someone who knows it. The other one I loved was 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly' tune. My sister & I used to shine lamps on the wall & make cowboy shadow dances up to it.
