Nice One, Mary!

It still gives me a buzz everytime! Not that I am even close to being a hollywood star but it's a milestone and a significant one at that!

Now look forward to the "Starmeter" competition you'll start with your other IMDb listed friends!

I love the Starmeter. It always appears to me to be completely and utterly random. Admittedly, I don't pay full subscription to the site, and so have never been able to access the section which supposedly tracks why the percentage is lowering and rising. But I love the fact that you can be down 75% one day, and up 330% the next. I find it bizarre, especially as *I* don't appear to be doing anything in my career to make it alter at all. And I didn't realise you could have 330% anyway. Can anyone enlighten me?

I know the feeling very well when I got my first credit on IMDB, it does make you feel you have achieved something especially in an industry where we need to be as hard as nails with all the rejections we get going to casting after casting and not landing that role we really really wanted.

I know it's great.
I look at my listing from time to time and see who I've worked with. Even though I obviously know. I thoughtI was the only one that was totally thrilled. A lot of people I talk to are a bit blaze (barlzey) (how do you spell it??) lol

I finished a film in May in a supporting role but have not yet been listed on IMDB although the movie is on IMDB and other people listed. Anyone know who is responsible for adding cast?

Thanks!

Chris, you can add yourself. As long as you have all the details and a registerd account. Takes a bit of effort with all the boxes to tick but if you know you were a part of the cast you can and should be listed. You will need (minimum a free account. Congrats to all who have made it to IMDB. The Star meter is a bit of a mystery to me too bit like my Mrs and her mood swings. Up and down. How are you Chris by the way? met you at the Andrew Bain shoot this year. Take care all watch out for those Whiz bangs and flashes over the next week and I don't mean SFX

PS: Blase

What about if you were just an extra in a feature? Can you still be listed or is it only speaking roles?

you can add yourself! there is an option at the bottom to update the listing, it takes a while to be checked and veridied but it should appear

Alice is right - adding yourself is fine if there is an existing listing for the film, because not every producer/director bothers to fill in all the details if what they are using the entry for is as a promo tool. IMDB will check your involvement, and confirm the status of the film (I assume with those who've made it), and then you can be added to the list formally. It does take a few weeks, so don't worry if nothing happens immediately.

The only films that are technically allowed to appear on IMDB listings are those which have had a release outside of private screenings - this includes films which go onto general release, which have a TV broadcast, which transfer to the DVD market, or which get festival screenings. IMDB check on all this themselves. Student films and anything made as 'low budget' 'home movie' type productions, for Youtube etc., virals, commercials, music videos don't qualify unfortunately, even if some of the work shot for them was impressive.

I'm not sure about inclusion of extras roles. Again, this would be up to the discretion of IMDB. Generally speaking, most film credits will not credit extras. IMDB lists credits in the style of the cast list, and non-speaking extras rarely make the cast list. To have been in a minor supporting role in which you spoke a line is a different matter - you are still entitled to a credit for your contribution as a supporting artist, and would be listed accordingly.

And, for the benefit of Sarah, Blase (with an acute accent over the 'e' - though I can't be bothered to search for the macron...) :)

General extra work will not generally be approved by the IMDb admins, however if it was featured work, walk-on or specialist skills then in my opinion it is OK. It should be noted that as a non-creditted member of the cast you should by add the "uncreditted" tag onto you listing as you will be viewed as stealing credits by whoever views your listing and thjis is never a good thing.

Never forget that IMDb is a public site and anyone and their dog can come in under a blanket of anonymity and have a real go at you...just because they can! As a perfect example of this, go have a look at my IMDb listing! I have made no secret about the fact that I started off in this game as an Supporting Artist and a lot of my early IMDb listings reflect this...then look at the forum entries against my listing to see the torrents of abuse I get for getting above my station and trying to better myself! There is still so much snobbery in this country against SA's, probably because competition is so fierce in such a small arena as the UK Film Industry and anyone who tries to climb the ranks is immediately viewed by a threast to those who are just above them.

Ho hum...Omwards and Upwards (sometimes sideways)

You really shouldn't add yourself, and you DEFINITELY shouldn't add yourself if it was an extra role. IMDB is NOT for extra roles, and CD's who use IMDB as an international casting resource will not take kindly to finding out your role in a blockbuster doesn't actually exist even if you've given yourself a "name" in the credits.

One of the production staff should add you to the production, so if your role warrants a credit, go to them and they'll add you. Ok, if it's glaring error, add yourself, but I don't advise it. IMDB is not CV you should update, which is why they add IMDB Resume, so actors have a secondary resource to update they own extra credits.

I'll agree with that Extras are never ever to be credited on IMDB. As much as they would love to see their name associated with whatever film they may have worked on. If it's a glaring mistake, go for it, as long as you have the ok to do so from whoever has the yay or nay.
