Lights for self taping

Hey,

I'm going to invest in some proper lights for doing self-tapes, can anyone recommend some that they've bought? There are so many online that it's hard to know what to go for. I know it'll be helpful if they're dimmable etc.

Cheers,

Freya

Thanks Andrew :) could you advise how you set them up please? I have tended to use natural light in the past so am a bit of a novice.

Hi Vicki, There are plenty of youtube videos to show you how plus for me it was trail and error until I found the right setup on camera etc

I have a 3 point softbox lighting set. The results are awesome. A downside is that the softboxes taking a lot of space and the assembling is comprehensive. I would think about a LED lighting set.

Sound is as much important as light. Maybe a bit more than light.

I'm using an iPhone 6 with the front-camera. Not the selfie side cause of the lower quality.

Oh Ok ...I thought you may have been using a mic too as you mentioned sound quality. I was looking into what you said a bit too much I think.

Have a good day Simon

I was told a simple led light for about £15 was all that was needed for self tape.

Yes, that could be enough. I think there is no right or wrong but better or worse. I do with what I'm happy and I feel okay. It has to fit the budget as well. At the beginnen I used poor room light with addition of a table light and got the part. Today I have my little 3 point lightning set and the result looks much better. For skype I'm using the lights as well.

Best sound quality over light everytime.... but yes - lighting also good if you can invest a bit in the sort of lights mentioned above.
My issue with the softbox lights is
a) the bulbs don't last long and are expensive to replace.
b) they are also a bit of a pain to set up....or can be.
My preference would be LED lighting and a light stand. Simple to set up and longlasting too. The THE GODEX LED lighting on ebay is great value. A 500w dimmable one would be fine for self tapes. If you can bounce them off a white wall or board...even better.

Hi Mark,

nosy as I'm was I looking for LED lights and stumbled over this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01D4HQXCO?th=1

That could be - it's getting more and more expensive haha - something to soften and the light.

Bests,
Simon

Think that's only the defuser though? It doesn't fit mine as they are larger...but they come with defuser plates.
