When a good opportunity...........

Farah Sardar
Actor

When a good opportunity comes your way is there a tendancy to jump up and down screaming like a raving lunatic or is it just me????????

In this profession you keep needing to touch base with fellow actors to make sure your not going insane.

Forbes - I too have suffered the humiliation of getting everyone to watch my dialogue in a BBC production and then everyone going "We SAW you, but where were your lines?" Very embarrassing....!! :P

Mark, 'Aceman', I think it's just subjective. No one's trying to dampen anyone elses spirits or be a party pooper.

I didn't mean to be negative, but from my own experience I handle things easier by not getting my hopes up and taking things as they come. That's just me. For me, being crazy happy isn't worth the come down if things don't pan out, but for someone else it could be completely different.

So, sorry for sparking all of this off... I didn't mean to rain on anyones parade or intend for my opinion to be interpreted as 'fact' or how I think EVERYONE ELSE should think.

To each his own.

Hi Cat!

No don't worry! I wasn't having a go either!

Everyones personal experiences are different and there really is no right or wrong. We have to do what works for us. When it stops working for us we can change it.

I personally think that life is too short to miss an opportunity of joy.

When I get a good casting, I embrace the joy all the way to the audition room, and I don't believe it makes me lose focus, quite the contrary, instead of being nervous, I'm happy.

And if I don't book the job it's ok; no one can take away the moment of joy I've had.

I much prefer that to stopping myself from being happy in case the future may turn out differently than what I'm hopping;

But each person needs to do what ever works for them.

Hi Claire

I was talking about once you get the call offering you the job. Yes ofcourse you are going to be happy and confident that you have been chosen, I think thats natural, you would have to be a complete depressive to take that negatively, and I completely agree that each actor has their own way of responding to any given sittuation, so whatever works for you, works for you.

I've had the call offering me the job numerous times and quite a few calls after that one cancelling it! The job isn't secure until you're actually on set, and even then I've heard horror stories of actors being replaced by an SA on the day 'cos the SA had a "better" look!

Funny old game...sometimes wonder why we put ourselves through it...and then I remember! :-)

ah, ah!
It's true that a job is never secured, even after signing the contract, even after you've shot it, as you know: you can be cut at the editing, replaced (like in back to the future)
In fact, this happened to me this week, I got cast in a feature film, 3 days before the shooting date I got an email telling me that my character got written out of the script...

That said, it's not going to stop me from enjoying the phone call telling me that I booked the job!!

On the subject of job cancellations and cutting room floor, yes it does happen to us all. Take heart though - they wanted you in the first place! That's at least one step closer to the... hehe... 'The Secret World of Acting'.

Yay, jump about like a scalded cat and be happy if you want - you got chosen out of who knows how many then, if you don't get the job move on and go for the next ones. If you do get the job, then still jump about like a lunatic if you want to - it won't stop you being focused or from doing a good job. But again, if you don't want to jump about, then don't. It really is subjective and it's up to the individual to act/react however they see fit :-))
