Project DetailsCasting "You Don’t Have to Be a Baby to Cry," a short film. Synopsis: Being 17. Tick. Being a dancing queen. She’s working on it… In the accidental bosom of a Northern Soul night, one girl will become a woman and one woman will remind her she’ll always be a girl. "You Don’t Have to Be a Baby to Cry" tells the story of a cross-generation friendship through the universal language of breaking it down. Set against the backdrop of the Harcourt Arms pub in North Oxford and infused with fully choreographed dance sequences, the film delves into themes of self-discovery, friendship, and the transformative power of dance. "The Red Shoes" meets "Frances Ha," this is a film about teenage obnoxiousness, dance, and harmony in the conflict between women.
Production states: "Written, directed, and produced by young women in the film industry, and with an all-female lead cast, this film is more than just about women. This is a film that delves into womanhood at its core – we believe that dancing is the perfect environment for exploring the most primal, innate feelings we are so often unable to articulate. It is essential to us that we hold true to just how fluid ‘womanhood’ is. Yes, you will still be a girl when you’re 80." -
