I first met EMMA MONRO-KING in September of 2009 when she enrolled on the full time American Theatre Arts B.A. course at Rose Bruford. As her Year Module Coordinator and Personal Tutor, I got to know her well over the three years as we formed a good working relationship in which our opinions were shared and respected. From the first, I was impressed by Emma’s no-nonsense approach to whatever task was asked of her, and her ability to see through projects without recourse to over-worry or fretting, despite the inevitable pressures to do so in a drama school. She showed herself to be a good team and ensemble player, quietly supporting others when necessary, and also providing the lead when required. As the years progressed, so she evolved her own technique to tackle any role, and this culminated in her highly successful portrayal of the matriarch, Amanda Wingvalley, in Christopher Durang’s comedy For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls in which she dominated the stage with a strong physicality, and fine, sharply observed (and slightly terrifying) asides and nuances throughout.
Punctual, reliable, honest and hardworking, she was a pleasure to teach and direct.
I wish her well, and highly recommend her to you.
