About me
David Aguilar is a screenwriter and graduate of UCLA Film School. His dramatic episodic series Out At Home, exploring the grueling lifestyle of Major League Baseball umpires which he developed at NALIP’s Latino Lens Workshop with Ligiah Villalobos, advanced to the second round of the Austin Film Festival, was named a quarterfinalist for the ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship and a finalist for the Writers For Writers Fellowship. Aguilar is developing Trespassers, a neo-Western feature script for director Alex Rivera (Sleep Dealer), dramatizing the 1967 New Mexico Courthouse Raid led by Reies Lopez Tijerina. Another feature in the works is Clandestino, a border-crossing drama Aguilar co-wrote for director Richard Goldgewicht (Pablo), presently being set up as a Brazil/Mexico co-production and named a semifinalist for the Academy’s Nicholl Fellowship and a finalist for the Oaxaca Film Festival Screenwriting Competition. Additionally, Aguilar wrote a screen adaptation of Gioconda Belli’s novel The Inhabited Woman, inspired by her experiences during the Sandinista revolution. Aguilar’s original feature script Ten Daze In L.A., focusing on interracial love during the 1992 Riots, was accepted into Film Independent’s Screenwriters Lab and recently named to Emerging Screenwriters’ Top 100. Aguilar was hired by Twinstar Entertainment to write an outline and pitch deck for their series in development The Racket. Aguilar has gained valuable storytelling experience as a producer for Reelz Channel, Cesar Millan Inc., Creative Compound and Civic Center Studios as well as by assisting his Project Involve mentor Robert M. Young (The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez) on the HBO film Walkout.License & Passport
