About me
When I was younger, I was addicted to shows like Art Attack and always marvelled at what was made and the process involved. Naturally, being a child and lacking the co-ordination to do what Neil Buchanan did meant that I had a creative itch that was quite difficult to scratch. I did project after project, going into each one with a dead-set determination to finish it to the best of my ability, or to at least get better at what I was doing, and this allowed me to develop a very wide set of skills in adult life. Storytelling was my big escape though, the hobby that always felt comfortable and 'right' for me; language and the ways that we communicate are the cornerstone of the modern world, and film is a remarkable example of it.I didn't intend to go into film per se, though. I sold a few short stories in my teens, wrote and followed all of my hobbies non-stop for years, and then a simple conversation with a good friend opened up the possibility of writing for screen, which was an exciting challenge in itself. That first script, “Amber”, won Best Short Film at the 2015 Nottingham Post Film Awards, earned selections at festivals, and gave me a second-hand taste for set design, production, and 1st Assistant Directing that I just had to pursue. I moved on to music videos, acting as a runner for a couple of photo shoots at Time Inc, and assisting with other people's projects, and I discovered that I was a surprising natural at managing teams on shoots, organising a whole lot of information at once, and finding creative, effective solutions to problems that would otherwise have drastically held up a shoot. I kept writing of course, and my second short film, "I Am God and Severely Underqualified" (which I'm immensely proud of due to a very niche writing technique that I don't want to spoil), is currently on a film festival circuit.
Without a doubt, studying psychology has been a huge boost to this creative work, and has definitely influenced my writing, but, more importantly, has allowed me to approach projects with a remarkably mature mindset, an uncommon level of organisation and efficiency, and a general optimism for team work and film as a whole. I'm open to expanding my experience and portfolio right now, so I would love to get involved with your project and use my skill set and abilities to try and make it the best that it can be. While I have a lack of formal training in the field, I hope that a look over my past projects will show that I still work to a high standard, and with professional enthusiasm and skill.
