About me
I was born in the gold country of California, very near to Yosemite National Park. The atmosphere made for a great location for both photography and film, so when I entered the film class in my freshman year of high school I was ready to go. I didn’t know what I would think of the course but within the week I had already fallen in love with the art. My film teacher at the time knew exactly what to show the class to not only inspire but also to teach a certain magic of film. The visual image is a powerful element and when used correctly is a universal language. I used this to my advantage and started making films with that idea in mind.My senior year led me to make a documentary for the US Forest Service about the Capitol Christmas tree that is lit up every year. I won 2nd place for best senior project and had the film archived in the Library of Congress. This achievement motivated me to get a BA in Film and Digital Media at the University of California Santa Cruz along with another BA in Photography. Here I learned the importance of every aspect of film from screenwriting, production to editing. I had the pleasure of working with large groups of peers on projects along with my own personal ideas. The teachers taught the importance of individuality along with the benefits of group effort so that I was ready for whatever came my way. It was also during this time that I realized that I loved lighting and camera operations. How the theme and structure of a film is very dependent on how the DP visualized the story and characters.
In a pursuit to learn more I realized I wanted to continue my education and achieve a MFA in Cinematography. My dream is to continue working behind the camera as it has become a part of me. I have learned to live, breathe and eat through my eyes as I greatly enjoy capturing the world and everything it has to offer. My only goal is to show others my passion so that they too may be inspired by the world around them.
