About me
Now living in the UK, the first African Dance teacher in Turkey, Inci Turan, discovered African dance in New York in 2000 while playing volleyball in Central Park. She then took African Dance lessons at New York's reputable Harlem Black Theatre, YMCA, Djoniba Dance&Drum Center, and Crunch Gym. After moving back to Turkey in 2005 she started teaching African dance, and giving motivational, team-building, ice-breaker corporate workshops incorporating African Dance and Drumming, a first time in Turkey. In 2006 she formed Turkey's pioneering African Dance&Music Ensemble ‘Dans Afrika’, in 2008 shared the stage with world renowned Mamady Keita, in 2009 brought from USA to Turkey world's biggest African Dance Company KANKOURAN for a free performance open to public at Koç University which was broadcasted live on CNN Turk, persuaded Bosphorus University to open African dance classes for the first time in Turkey and taught the classes for 2 years with live music by drummers' she herself supported financially; her performances and classes appeared on TV main news, newspapers, magazines, international radio programs such as RFI (Radio France Internationale), and The New Yorker Magazine. She has given over 200 free workshops and performances to introduce mesmerizing African dance and music to Turkey, to spread all their positive benefits.Additional skills:

I have worked for 11 years in New York, 15 years in Istanbul, and 3 years in the U.K. accumulating extensive sales, telesales and business development experience in various sectors for companies including Oracle, Xerox and David Feldman Worldwide.
Starting from scratch I introduced and promoted African dance to Turkey, have successfully delivered close to 1000 classes and over 20 corporate workshops to top tier firms, and opened the first African dance classes in Turkey at reputable schools and universities, teaching the classes myself. Radio France Internationale, The Guide İstanbul, The New Yorker Magazine and other news sources have chronicled my work.
I attended my first business meeting for an M&A of Tiele chain factory at age 15 with my father in Germany who then ran his own pioneering engineering firm in Istanbul where I worked for a year when I was 18. The rest you can see in my attached CV. I am trilingual in Turkish, English and German; a goal-oriented and self-motivated businesswoman with innate leadership skills and eager to contribute to and help develop individuals and organisations.
Additional information:
My objective is to spread and teach joyful and therapeutic African Dance, the root of many dance forms; motivate and help gain ‘can-do attitude’ and sense of rhythm; create team spirit; enhance thinking by developing the right side of the brain (right lobe) known to influence creativity and overall intelligence; develop brain-body coordination/synchronization and comparative thinking; help have healthier body-mind, get out of comfort zone, create an interest and desire for a healthier living, gain self confidence; help apply these benefits in other platforms; teach how to honor, and tune up the body by keeping it healthy while simply having fun with polyrhythmic and polycentric, healing African Dance.
