About me
I have had a passion for all things theatre related from a young age. I studied Drama until I was 18 and although I enjoyed it immensely; I was a terrible actor, so hung up my hat and went onto study Science. Whilst I was at University I continued to dabble in the Arts by becoming a Safety Steward at Wembley. This was a great opportunity to see many acts perform alongside improving my knowledge of Health and Safety and my customer experience skills. It was around this time I also got a varied role with Luton Culture working in both their Arts venues The Hat Factory and Luton Library Theatre. I worked in the box office, reception, on the bar and as front of house. Here I learnt some new skills, such as using the Databox system for the box office, dealing with difficult customers as front of house and maintaining stock on busy bar shifts.
After a few years in this role I then went onto become a Duty Manager. This involves me coordinating events by ensuring the venues are set up, catering and riders are provided, tills and fridges are stocked and all staff members are briefed on the event at hand. Throughout the shift I will ensure the organisers and clients have everything they need and also that staff and customers have no issues and ensure fire and health and safety is adhered to. I also have to ensure stock rotation is maintained and report back to the facilities manager on any stock or money needed for the next show. At the end of a shift I will double check floats and takings, sign off timesheets and finally check and lock the building, including key and money safes.
During this period I temped as a Marketing Assistant for Luton Culture for around 5 months. This allowed me to see how the events came into fruition and to see how they were actively promoted to local residents. As we were only a small team I learnt a lot in a short period of time; from overwriting on posters and leaflets to liaising with publishers, the press, the public and clients and also learning new skills such as Photoshop, web design, proof reading and advertising.
In my current role at Live Well Luton I lead on all the local campaigns and general day-to-day marketing tasks, such as administrative duties and coordination of events. I regularly liaise with the department heads and their teams who have their own projects and targets which I am able to assist them with by promoting their services. On a daily basis I’m required to determine which department takes precedence in terms of reaching company targets and KPI’s. I also regularly meet with marketing colleagues, stakeholders and external suppliers such as designers and printers to plan and organise campaigns, events and publicity.
I currently coordinate and promote all outreach and events at Live Well Luton working with partners and staff to generate referrals and improve exposure and engagement with the public. This includes coordinating staff and volunteers to attend events, contacting venue facilitators and organisers, completing risk assessments and promoting events through a combination of different Medias, such as social media, radio and newspapers. Successful events have included Luton Carnival, Man v Fat launch, Luton Polish Festival and Community Cohesion through Cuisine where we created links with other local organisations and attended hard to reach communities.
As part of my current role I have to complete 13 campaigns annually, these represent the KPI’s of at least one area of the organisation i.e. smoking cessation. I have to control the budget for the campaigns and ensure everything is completed to set deadlines. I'm responsible for ordering resources and marketing materials, therefore having a keen attention to detail and having to liaise with external and internal providers. Prior to and once completed I write campaign briefs, actions, analysis, evaluation and overall reports on how the campaign went, which is then sent to stakeholders and commissioners. I also have to develop and maintain customer engagement and experience, I do this by regularly communicating with customers via social media channels and capturing their attention by constantly giving them new content e.g. videos and blogs.
