About me
My name is Lilly Sjösvärd and I am a London based Theatre Technician. My passion for my career in Technical Theatre seems to grow each day. I always look forward to going to work, collaborating with the team and learning more about theatre. I am a dedicated and passionate technician who is hungry to learn. During my three years at Canterbury Christ Church (BA Hons in Creative Theatre Production, 2:1), I worked on several productions and shows both inside and outside of university as I was also employed as a casual technician at the Quarterhouse Theatre. I give 100% to every task and am able to ask questions, but equally, I’m not someone who needs to have their hand held. I am confident that I also have different strengths and experiences that I can offer to the team, whilst also being able to adapt to any task or situation that gets put in front of me.Working in the professional theatre world alongside my studies helped me to further develop my organisational skills to juggle work and university at the same time. Throughout my life, I have been the “problem fixer girl” with the big smile on her face. I strive to see solutions and opportunities to sort things rather than to see obstacles and difficulties. I am an energetic and enthusiastic person who works well with all kinds of different people. I work great under pressure whilst being able to keep the people around me calm in stressful situations.
During my first ever gig being a Lighting technician for an End of the Year Concert at university, I also had to take on the roles of Technical Manager, Stagehand and Stage Manager, effectively running the entire concert myself. This taught me a lot about staying calm whilst managing several roles at once. This continued throughout my entire time at university dealing with several different shows at once along with working at the Quarterhouse. I am a quick learner and will always be curious and willing to learn if I find something that I do not yet know.
Additional skills:
During my year at Disney’s The Lion King as a Stage Technician I have had an incredible opportunity to work on a large-scale West end production and I have loved it. I have learnt multiple backstage tracks and as part of my duties I perform weekly maintenance on various components of the show from flying set pieces to smaller more intricate props. I find this invaluable as it allows me to continually learn new skills, which is making me a stronger, well rounded and more versatile technician.
