I guess they do Jenna...coz they can! Dunno....I'm no expert in the casting race field or that prod...though I cannot abide racism of any description. That was aired on here a few months ago I think.

A neat thread has started up on the use of Equity....or rather what is the point of Equity? That is an interesting and something we shoudl all feel strongly about .....its on another thread though....so move over to that one…don't hijack it to this thread!

Or.....
Actors? Are we hard working creative types doing what we love.....or a bunch of egotistical, manic show-offs with a dodgy reputation?

DISCUSS...!!

Here is another one!! TIE…waste of space….or good learning curve…despite the low fees?

Or…….Actors CV listings should all be graded to rid us of the amateurs and wanabees ……!!! I will……..I will if pushed…. Get back on my soap box and re-start that thread, coz I still belive in it!!

C'mon…we are actors….lets liven it up to justify the membership fee!!! Ooooh there is another….CCP…fees too high?!!

Arrrrgh……..let it roll!!!

Keep it real.....and clean in case CCP strikes you down and sends you to a life of unpaid dingy fringy!

Meanwhile….it's back to the showreel edit suite for me today….!
Best to all.

I'd roll with the actors as their own debate !Personally I think we're both .The two can go with the territory (ie. to a lesser or greater extent) we're all as mad as hatters!

If you're getting bored with the forum you could always wander over to the group page I moderate on behalf of Hubbard Casting on Facebook. Always pretty lively over there!

What always grinds my gears, as it were, is when you see a casting on this site with the following phrase in the casting breakdown:

"No acting experience necessary"

So why are you posting on a professional actors site?!

* * Grrr and other irritated noises.

Was getting a bit too personal though Forbes!! I like proper "lively" debate.....not forcing opinions...just coz someone holds a different view! At least the posts are not censored on Facebook...I'll give you that and yes it's an interesting subject.

A calamity? That's a bit strong Julie! It's a damn sight better now I'm running the show than it used to be although some members, from the sanctuary of their own bedrooms, forget they are talking to real people and those people, being passionate and in your case "fiesty" actors, will fight back!

You'll find it is heavily censored Mark. I've deleted numerous posts since taking over the driving seat! I've issued warnings this morning after last nights after-hours outbursts by 2 members so as the membership settles and learns about my mindset it'll all come good!

My mandate is to make it a welcoming and open forum for all actors of all ages to come and ask for and give advice!

Not all members follow the guidelines, which I fully admit I'm making up as a I go along as learn about the personalities within the membership, and these issues are being dealt with on a case by case basis!

And yes, we have deleted and blocked some repeat offenders!

Oooh Forbes - I liked the word calamity, haven't used it in such a long time - so I'll use something different - Vile! Because there are some people in the Acting Industry with whom I will not work with (I am not being precious) because of what they have written especially on that particular site, their views have disgusted me and with their playground attitude and 'put down' disrespect to other actors has simply been abominable - so I am glad they have been deleted - the calamity is to themselves in the way they want to portray themselves.

Wow! Vile isn't any better! We're in an industry that attracts some pretty vile characters for sure, but so does banking, accountancy, music, teaching and pretty much every other industry! My job on Hubbards is to root them out and get rid but this takes time! Name and shame the ones you find particularly abhorrent in a PM and I'll give them a closer look...and no, the one you mentioned to me last night doesn't count as he's done nothing wrong other than promote his workshops and be a bit of a kiss ass!! If I banned all kiss-asses we'd have very few members left! :-)

You is on Fire Boy!! No I don't name and shame because they should stick out like a sore thumb! And yes as I shared with you.. there is something about Bernard Hillier (Oh God did I just name?) that I just can't take to, as he brings out yet another book or another master class date - sucking the actor's money - you know how I feel about that -but hey its my own choice - you wont see me at his masterclass - and if anyone on CCP has been to it and enjoyed it then excellent.

NOW...were cooking/debating!!!

Forbes, I respect you and your views in most cases, but I have to agree with Julie. I've seen some of the posts on last nights LA debate...and it was a joke in places. Telling people to F...K off simply because they hold a differing view or voice facts correctly or incorrectly "is" vile. If you are moderating it....you need some over night assistance. I'm all for free speech......but "good lively debate" it aint! It often descends into a school playfield! It's not just last nights debate either....there are a few complete ignoramus's on that forum...and yes every industry may well attract them...but the bedroom laptop school boys swear filled arrogance is something I do now wish to take part in.

I was thrown a few insults on there a while back simply because I picked up an actor for getting a) His facts totally wrong...and b) he was bullying someone else who simply raised and made a valid point. It was actually you Forbes who told me to "Chill Dude" coz ?XYZ? is known to be a bit of a live wire!! He wasn't being anything of the sort ...he was being an obnoxious pig...and his own pages totally backed that up. Anyone can be controversial for the sake of it....but idiots like that give other actors a bad name......and we seem to have a bad enough name as it is...without some little jerk banging out obscenities from under his duvet on his mummy's laptop for the world to see!

LOUISE GUBBAY had offered sensible 1st hand advice and a few seasoned facts based on experience. I am sure I found it useful and based on folk I know who have searched for stardom in LA I pitched in. It got awfully out of hand and in the end Louise was insulted...which is a shame when she has the benefit of 1st hand experience to offer us all. No...I wont name and shame either....let them hamg themselves!!

We all hate censorship, it often squashes creative and lively debate, and on this ccp forum, the hammer comes down far too early in most cases. I personally could not care less if someone swears or disagrees with me as long as they are able to do so relatively constructively ....but I will not take personal insults from a Gobby idiot, who thinks he is a film star because he has waved a gun around in a film short, and who has barely come out of nappies!

If you are the moderator, I think you need to moderate it even more vigorously.....but I accept, you can't do that all the time, and that it must be quite a task!

My overall point being: If a debate is lively and intelligent, we might be able to attract more of the industry to join in and offer us 1st hand knowledge and incite....and that can only be good for all of us I think.

This raises another lively debate subject!

HAS THE ART OF "GOOD" DEBATE BEEN LOST?

Mark, The people in question have been written to and the offensive posts deleted! One user got deleted and banned this morning without any direct warning as his comments were way worse than the f-off post which was, whilst unacceptable, was reactionary!

I can't be online 24/7 to keep an eye on things...that's just not practical.

It's a bit like herding cats and a thankless task but believe me I'm on top of things! Short of banning all interaction between actors, which I've recently persuaded the group owners not to do, I'm at a loss as to what you think I can do more than I'm doing!

Struth I dont know, its got a bit dull again.

Alternative subject: what is the worst posting youve seen on CCp for a so called 'paid' job. I once criticized a post that wanted semi nude actors (with physical theatre skills) for half a days work at £5/hour.

I notice alot of posts looking for 'Drama Teacher' or 'Triple Threat' after school work... and the rate? I'm sure I saw one on here recently : £12/hour. What kind of teacher is going to turn up?? Why dont they just get the PE teacher?

BUt my favourite was the one wanting an actor who had animal handling skills, and 'hopefully your own snake' for a days work for £75. Fabulous.

Anyway, maybe someone will reply. If not, check out the other thingy ...God not another forum..?

Nice one Forbes. NMW eh? for an AD?? Havnt seen the forum you are moderating but wd imagine you are the right chap for the job...

I just get angry these days when I see this sort of $%^&. I recently turned down a job I got thru ccp that was based in Essex, as the company refused to pay any kind of travel. (and the show was in an obscure location) They had alot of funding, but just expected actors to stump up, because as we all now, this industry is over-subscribed etc

I cant thnk of another industry where the individual needs to be so aware of their power to MAKE A GOOD CHOICE.

With the good figures for 'employment' just out, I wonder if we will see more jobs for actors?

Love the other post..no money, bring your own food,,,exc! did they also want you to write your own script?

One thing I notice is that there's not a lot of good feedback threads. On a few other sites I go to, they have very free-talking threads where they can get quite in-depth about each other's faults and strengths.

They can be pretty gut wrenching as you do bare yourself completely to criticism, but it's also useful as long as everyone stays on point and follows the number one rule of any social space: Don't Be A Dick. Sometimes, one person will start a thread like "would I work with you based on your profile" and they'll basically sit and give brutally honest critique to anyone who replies for as long as they can be bothered.

I don't know about you folks, but for me those threads have been really useful. Harsh, but useful. :) I'll try to start something up and see where it goes.

There is a casting today asking for 3 white females to play customers. I don't have an issue with this, if that's what they want, but I know some people on the forum felt annoyed about specifying black or Asian actors for castings.

Well it works both ways. This is just the other side of the same coin.
