About me
Adam Smith Jr. is an Artist/Practitioner living in New York since 1997. He is an actor, singer, director and producer. Originally from St. Louis MO, Adam spent most of his early years moving around the US and Canada. Spending time in several different cultures; Adam created several characters and became fluent in dialects and accents. After theatre training in college he moved to NYC and worked for over 7 years on Wall Street, though he had no training in finance. In 2007 he returned to the stage full-time; theatre remains his first passion. Most recently he starred to critical praise in the roles of Father Markus in the Nordic Drama winner for Best Play, The Fundamentalist by Juha Jokela and in '10 starred as Matthew in the character centric play: Miracle Day by Tom Sime Off Broadway, a role written for him by Sime. Additionally, He has performed all over New York Stages, Regional Theatre and Tours.Primarily known for his strong character work and his unorthodox approach to classical theatre, he has played roles in Award winning productions such as Ragtime at Playhouse on the Square. He has been a front line dancer in Guys and Dolls in regional theatre and played 23 roles in 90 minutes in professional productions of The Complete History of America, Abridged by the Reduced Shakespeare company. Adam is the Producing Partner of the Modern Stage and collaborated with company Founder Tom Sime on the NYC Workshop production of Bloodletters as director as well as the Oh Nine reading series. He also serves as Managing Director of Mainstreet Musicals and is a Treasurer for The Shubert Organization. He has trained at Arkansas State University, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, with the late Paul Sills and Julia Landsford of The Metropolitan Opera. Though his first passion will always be performing on the stage, he has recently started to share his talents on camera and plans to pursue more work in this form. He has been called "the epitome of the Actor/Practitioner" By Dr. Aaron Adair, "a Stradivarius any writer, director or producer would love to play" by Tom Sime, and "really smart director" by Joel Schumacher (Bloodletters).
Smith is considered by many as one of the best known unknown actors in New York. This is probably a result of his ability to work in many aspects of theatre.
