Highlights
-
Stephen C. Mitchell’s directorial debut was the Grammy-nominated rockumentary 'Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon,' about three-time Grammy winning rock band Kings of Leon. The project was distributed theatrically in the U.K. and aired on Showtime Networks in North America after premiering at international film festivals, including the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and the Edinburg International Film Festival.
Mitchell also directed the ESPN Films documentary 'Nixon's National Champs' about the controversial 1969 College Football season when newly-elected President Nixon traveled to the "Game of the Century" to name the National Champion on ABC. The film features Chris Fowler, the “voice of college football,” along with politician Pat Buchanan, and is considered a fan favorite for ESPN and Longhorn Network viewers.
In 2015, Mitchell directed Toby Keith's 'Neighborhood Sessions,' a 1-hour branded content project for State Farm Insurance that aired in primetime on TBS. Produced by Translation LLC and Radical Media, the hybrid film was shot by award-winning cinematographer Declan Quinn and features legendary football coach, Barry Switzer.
Beginning his career in Nashville, Mitchell worked with Grammy-winning songwriter and world-renowned musician Tommy Sims ("Change The World"). He signed Grammy- winning songwriter and producer Andrew Ramsey (India.Arie, John Legend) and brothers Nathan and Caleb Followill (3x Grammy-winning Kings of Leon) to music publishing deals for industry mogul Ken Levitan. In 2003, Mitchell served as an A&R scout and researcher for Jason Flom, then Chairman of Atlantic Records (NYC).
With a shift toward film and TV in 2005, Mitchell studied at the Bruce Ornstein Acting Workshop in NYC and attended Robert McKee Story seminars. In 2008, he served as Creative Director for 'Only By the Night: The Home Movies,' a series of online clips for KoL’s fourth album release that raised the band’s YouTube channel to number one in the world. He also directed their music video for "Crawl." He then produced Brandblack’s product release commercial with RSA Films, which features NBA star Jamal Crawford, and wrote promo clips for the HBO documentary 'Baltimore Rising.'
Mitchell has also acted in bit parts on 'Louie' (FX), 'Broad City' (Comedy Central), and 'Paterno' (HBO) directed by Barry Levinson, and appeared as himself on ESPN, 'Last Call with Carson Daly' (NBC), 'Good Day New York,' and 'The Adam Carolla Show.'
