About me
Jonathan Gilmer is a production designer whose work is based in both drama and opera.Jonathan recently completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Technical Theatre Arts from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He majored in design realisation, focusing on props, scenic art, and scenic construction, with a minor in production video design. Jonathan has been working in performance for many years and developed a passion for drama and opera at a young age with the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Jonathan has taken part in over 30 productions throughout his degree in roles including production designer, scenic art coordinator, props coordinator, and construction manager working with professional directors, designers, and performers. Productions while at Guildhall include The Cunning Peasant (Stephen Medcalf), Le Donne Curiose (Stephen Barlow), The Rape of Lucretia (Martin Lloyd-Evans) and Guys & Dolls (Martin Connor).
Jonathan recently completed a 6-week internship with Opera Australia supporting various productions in the Sydney Opera House and on their outdoor production of Turandot. In December of 2015, he designed and stage-managed Shostakovich Day with The Barbican and Gerard McBurney in the Milton Court Concert Hall. Jonathan was part of the student design team for the U.K. Student Exhibition for the Prague Quadrennial for Performance Design in 2015.
