About me
A native of Washington D.C. and a graduate of Emerson college with a focus in cinematography, Luke Hanlein has been working as a cinematographer on narrative features and shorts, music videos, and commercials for several years. After years of living in the cold and bitter cities of the east coast, he relocated to sunny Los Angeles and got his start in the film industry as a gaffer primarily sticking to commercial and larger budget music videos. Luke got his first real taste of professional cinematography shooting music videos for various artists including spots for Lana Del Rey, 5th Harmony, and Herb Albert. However, his main passion as a filmmaker was always telling stories and using his natural eye and technical skills to help craft images that carried narrative and emotional weight. Thus, he soon gravitated towards to honing his focus on feature length narrative and documentary work, and teamed with fellow Emerson alum Orson Oblowitz to lens his directorial debut THE QUEEN OF HOLLYWOOD BLVD, starring Michael Parks, Roger Guenveur Smith and Rosemary Hochschild. Following up shooting Queen he dove into the documentary world working on short content for Vice Media in LA, eventually being tapped to with director Jeff Feuerzeig on AUTHOR: THE J.T. LEROY STORY which was in competition at Sundance 2016. His most recent work includes the features films CORBIN NASH and A VIOLENT MAN which premiered in 2017 at Oldenburg Festival in Germany. He continues to work in cinematography on feature length narrative and documentary films, as well as shorter form content and is based in Los Angeles.Additional information:
