About me
Between 2005-18 as the dramaturg at A.C.T. in San Francisco, I dramaturged over 80 productions and workshops, while also, as one of the Heads of Faculty, taught in its acclaimed MFA Acting Program. I was a pivotal collaborator on Ursula Rani Sarma's adaptation of A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS, and, at his invitation, adapted Colm Toibin's TESTAMENT from three existing versions for our 2014 production. My skills as a collaborator--intensive, empathetic listening, creative story-telling, nimble problem-solving, putting others first--have made artists such as John Douglas Thompson, Bill Irwin, Anne Kauffmann, Hal Brooks, Philip Kan Gotanda, Ursula Rani Sarma, Timberlake Wertenbaker, and Frank Galati value my presence in the rehearsal studio. In the MFA program, I directed VIEUX CARRE, TALK TO ME LIKE THE RAIN, and SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER by Tennessee Williams, OUT THE WINDOW by Neal Bell, and A LIFE IN THE THEATRE by David Mamet. I'm also the author of three books, including GENTLEMEN CALLERS: TENNESSEE WILLIAMS, HOMOSEXUALITY, AND MID-TWENTIETH-CENTURY THEATER and A FIVE-ACT PLAY: 50 YEARS OF A.C.T. Now that I'm back in New York, I'm looking to continue my collaboration as a dramaturg with more gifted colleagues, as well as teach students what it means to read and understand, as actors, classic and contemporary plays.Additional skills:
Superior written and oral communication skills; Microsoft Office.
