About me
I am a third year student on the BA (Hons) Costume Construction for Screen and Stage degree at the University of South Wales in Cardiff. In the first year of my degree I received an award for best in the year at pattern cutting and in my second year I came runner up in the Marytacular drag queen competition. I learnt to sew when I was very young when my mother used to make my clothes and my interest in making has developed my skills over time; from making clothes for myself, to selling them to others online and at festivals. It was this experience that pushed me to apply for my degree and to begin my career in costume. I received a Distinction in the Foundation Degree I am hoping to achieve a First when I graduate, throughout my degree I have learnt extensive making skills having undertaken a variety of projects; from making huge animal suits for Madagascar Live at The New Theatre, Cardiff, to reconstructing the blue Victorian day dress worn in Renoir’s La Parisienne for the National Museum of Wales. Skills I have learnt include pattern cutting, body padding, breaking down, corsetry, design, historical research and various hand sewing techniques. My lecturer has described me as “very employable” because I am a passionate team player, I work well in high-pressure environments and am very detail oriented. I'll be finishing in June when I'll be travelling home to the East of England to look for work, I have a full UK driving license and my own vehicle.Referees:
