NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS:
I am self-motivated and able to work happily on my own, but I work co-operatively with others as well. Besides my work in the collaborative environment necessary to complete script projects, I have also worked successfully within a team in various day jobs. In Montreal, I worked as an assistant TEACHER at NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE DAY CARE CENTRE, involved chiefly with immigrant people. In the writing/editing/research contract positions I have held in White Rock/South Surrey, I've dedicated myself fully. At a women's centre, I managed a daycare project that resulted in over a 100-page report. In my work for a mediation society, I produced a monthly newsletter while working actively with many local community groups and media.
Writing/editing/research contract positions were as follows:
1) As a DAYCARE RESEARCHER at South Surrey/White Rock Women's Place, my main responsibility was to produce a report documenting the needs of school-aged children & proving the viability of school-based daycare.
The process included: Researching daycare issues and policies in library articles, government documents, municipal documents & university papers. Creating questionnaires. Conducting personal interviews with directors of daycare centres within the Lower Mainland. Conducting mail and telephone surveys throughout Canada & USA. Promoting the concept in local newspapers. Writing report. Federal government requested 18 copies.
2) As a MARKETING/RESEARCH COORDINATOR for Surrey/White Rock Mediation Services Society, I researched conflict resolution programs already in operation in North America to assess the viability of establishing a Community Center in Surrey/ White Rock. The process included: Compiling and conducting marketing surveys. Compiling information into resource handbook. Advertising the aims, objectives and services of the organization within the community. Setting up presentations and public relations with community groups, media. Writing and producing newsletters, press releases, public announcements. Assisting with writing of funding applications. And helping organize Special Event, called Conflict Resolution Day, involving coordination of entertainers, volunteers, etc.
I worked for WESTERN NEWS, a Westside Community Newspaper--answered telephones, mail, correspondence, bookkeeping, customer relations--complaints, information assistance, subscriptions, paid newspaper delivery people and delivered papers myself when necessary.
Volunteer Work:
Besides my radio broadcasting position, and Publisher/Editor of my own e-magazines, I was a volunteer worker for the Surrey Crown Council Victim Witness Services, a program of the Criminal Justice Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General of B.C. Required to attend initial training program and advanced training, and to provide emotional support and accurate information to victims and witnesses to assist them through the court process as well as performing clerical, administrative functions. Currently, Anonymous for the Voiceless (animal rights organization).
EDUCATION:

To Whom It May Concern;
On behalf of the South Surrey/ White Rock Women’s Place, I am pleased to provide this letter of recommendation for Racine Hiet.
Racine was employed at our Centre through a project grant. Her position title was DAYCARE RESEARCHER, and the purpose was to produce a report, documenting school-aged child care needs. Additional objectives were to demonstrate that school-based, before and after school child care centres are a viable option to meeting the needs of this age group.
Racine very quickly grasped the intent of the project. Through extensive research, review of existing materials, personal interviews and observations, she has completed an excellent report. Racine demonstrated excellent organizational and analytical skills. Her writing is of the highest caliber, as are her editing skills.
We found Racine to be very committed, both to this project and to our Centre. Racine gave over 100% to this project and we sincerely appreciate her efforts.
In closing, I would recommend Racine to any position you feel is appropriate for her skills.
Sincerely, Susan Kram *
Outreach Co-Ordinator
*(South Surrey/ White Rock Women’s Place Association has been renamed South Frazer Valley Women’s Services Society. Susan Kram can be contacted at Atira Women’s Resource Society where she presently works with the senior women’s transition house in White Rock/South Surrey).
I am also listed on Larry Brody’s TVWriter.com site as one of a select few writers recommended for primetime television. He says, “These men and women possess skill, poise, and professionalism, and show a deep understanding of format, structure, emotion, and dialog. He goes on to put it this way: "As a writer-producer responsible for literally thousands of hours of network, cable, and syndicated programming, I can say to any other producer that you won't go wrong by hiring any of those listed!"

Thrive In Life
Casey Lindberg-Coghill
Freelance Writer & Editor
Racine is one of the most compassionate and creative editors/publishers I have had the privilege to work for. I wrote two articles for her independent, self-started magazine Thrive in Life. As a beginning writer, I found her advice and feedback to be extremely encouraging and helpful. She is a true gem.
Emily Rose
Corporate Communications Consultant
I contributed a story for Thrive in Life, December '11 edition and have nothing but praise for both the publisher/editor and the publication. Racine was a consummate professional, responding promptly to communications and offering helpful advice where necessary. Her positive nature and sunny disposition make her a breath of fresh air in the publishing and editing landscape. It was a pleasure to work with Racine and Thrive in Life, and I look forward to contributing more for them in the future.
