More Beautiful For Having Been Broken

2019, 106 minutes

A coming of age for an amazing 10 year old with Special Needs.

More Beautiful for Having Been Broken is a magical tale that follows ten-year old Freddie played by Cale Ferrin (a special needs actor) in a breakout and courageous performance. Freddie puts his mastery of living with challenges and a unique wisdom all his own to work when embattled FBI agent, McKenzie De Ridder shows up in the very small and rural Lake Merveille. McKenzie (Max) has been suspended due to her erratic behavior following the death of her mother. An avowed city dweller, Max, none the less returns to the remote hiking and fishing vacation town that her mother used to bring her to when she was young. Freddie’s immediately smitten with the newcomer but Max has no patience for the young gent until he puts on the full-court charm offensive and Max’s defenses melt. He gallantly worms himself through to her very center. But Freddie’s mother, Samantha, a beautiful ex-dancer, doesn’t trust Max for a second. She’s spent ten years keeping her son alive and safe, her world revolving around the “Freddie channel 24/7.” But over time, Samantha’s resistance to McKenzie softens with Freddie’s persistence and to both their chagrins the women begin to find solace and friendship together. As Freddie, Samantha and McKenzie spend time with the motley crew of characters in the small town with breath-taking vistas, the three of them begin to forge a deep and unshakeable bond and experience the most heartbreakingly beautiful love affair characterized by Samantha’s favorite word: Kintsukuroi – a Japanese term that means “more beautiful for having been broken.” Starring Cale Ferrin, beloved Australian across, Zoe Ventoura, Longtime Companion’s Bruce Davidson, French Stewart and So You Think You Can Dance’s Kayla Radomski.
