My Final Meeting

Alan Brent
Actor

I am standing down as Chairman of Yorkshire Ridings Equity General Branch in September because I have held the post for nearly seven years now.

In that time I'm pleased to say that the prospects of actors in Yorkshire getting more work and being paid better for it have gone through the roof compared to the situation before.
the AGM in September will be my last in charge and I will be happy to hand over the reins to my successor and wish them well with their future development of the services the Branch provides for our members.

The last Branch meeting I will be in charge for is this weekend on Saturday 19th July at the Leeds Met Film School in Millennium Square Leeds (next door to the Carriageworks Theatre) at 11am.
Even if you are not a member yet or are a member of another Branch or student member you will be welcome to attend.

There you will find a welcome and information about all of the things that you need to know about how to improve your work opportunities in Yorkshire and how the Branch can help.

We normally have a minimum of 30 actors at each meeting so there will be plenty of ideas and support for all.

It will be a great opportunity for those contemplating joining Equity to see exactly what it is all about.

I look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible (the Screening room takes over 100!).

Is this what we call the seven year itch Alan?

Or is it to devote all your free time to the new Equity Council, remember all votes have to be in by this Friday!!!

I doubt that I will get on to Council at the first attempt. Especially with all of the 'Group voting' pamphlets from M4M and Rep Group floating about.
If it was an independent election with no coercion from groups ...then maybe!
Good luck to all CCP members in the election!

As chair of the Yorkshire Ridings branch you have certainly been a great asset to your region and I hope you get a huge turnout for your last branch meeting and an even more enormous round of applause.

Also I hope you will continue all your hard work for your fellow Equity members on the Northern Area Committee and yes it would be really good to see you on the 08/10 Equity Council.

Cheers

You will be pleased to here that I have just rang a fellow Equity member this evening asking and getting them to vote for you both!

I hope you get on the Council Alan, and you too Tracey. It seems to me (and I may be being a little unfair here) that we need the voices from t'shopfloor, as it were, up there.

Best of luck to both of you!

Thanks, Annie. T'shop floor as apart from t'stage door?
It's kind of you all to give us your support.
But to get on to council at the first attempt is an almost impossible achievement. A minimum of 1000 votes are needed and most of the voting is 'directed' by the different political factions in the Union.
As an independent candidate I only hope that people will look at the good Tracey, I and others have attempted to be to those around us and ignore the 'directed' voting to support those not influenced by 'groups'.
We'll see in a very short time. Voting ends on Friday. Please get your papers in the post today!!

I'm pleased to say that we are going to have a 'Bumper meeting' on Saturday from all of the people who have been in touch to say they're coming!
It will be terrific!
See you all there.
Alan

Thank you for your supportive words Annie and Clive.

And I am glad to hear that you are going to get a bumper turnout on Saturday. I wish it could be their but train fares from my place up to Leeds are silly prices if you don't book significantly ahead.

By the way do you know if the North West General branch are having a summer party again this year?

Cheers

You'll have to contact them to find out. Jackie Provis is not very well just now and their Branch is suffering badly because of the smoking ban closing all of their venues thus reducing their work prospects.
So it's not a good time for Variety Branches.
Put the AGM date of 20th September in your diary though. Our AGMs are more than a meeting. We have a spectacular show planned and it will be far more than just 'Business'. It will be a celebration of everything we've been doing throughout the year with contributions from Screen Yorkshire. Award winning directors, casting directors, film clips and speeches from notable 'names' too many to mention. It also links in with the 'Bite the Mango Film Festival' in Bradford's Media Museum (the venue for our AGM) so all of the participants can take part in all of the amazing networking opportunities and classes in all of the film and TV workshops.
I'm never one to do things by half!

I'm delighted to say there was an excellent turn out on Saturday for my last meeting in charge (except of course for our AGM in September).
I would urge anyone who is in Yorkshire on 20th September to put that date in their diaries!
It will be a 'Spectacular' once again!!!
Details available to anyone Member or not since we do allow guests at our AGM.
