SAVED! The National Student Drama Festival!!

I'm pleased to announce that the National Student Drama Festival has been saved from funding cuts!
Action from Equity and pressure from Yorkshire Ridings General Branch has managed to bring some Common Sense to bear on the issue.

Arts Council England said that because it was a Yorkshire based Festival in Scarborough that it was a funding decision for ACE Yorkshire. Whilst ACE Yorkshire said that since it was a National Festival for recently graduated students from all over the country that it was a National funding decision. The result would have been a funding impasse with the Festival being cancelled for the lack of money.

I would like to send my heartiest congratulations to everyone who got involved with this campaign.
Next up...Compass Theatre!

Great news! The NSDF is a vital forum for continuing to inspire up and comers in all branches of the industry - it's always tremendously well supported by key players from *within* the industry -and the quality of much of the work actually produced for it would put some so-called 'professional' bodies to shame.

I understand that funders might imagine that the festival is not 'benefitting' anyone directly other than students...but, of course, a huge percentage of those students are the industry's future...whether in the guise of actors, set designers, directors, writers/devisers, critics...

Well said, Lee. The future of performance lies in the hands of new generations. Anything we can do to help launch their careers can only benefit all of us.
