The faculty position will teach a minimum of 3 credits per semester at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts. The candidate will be capable of teaching various levels of the undergraduate program, be proficient in traditional techniques, and have a broad understanding of new approaches to animation.

The interdisciplinary nature of the Department and College requires that faculty maintain an active professional practice and meaningfully contribute in a variety of areas. In addition to teaching, all part-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the department and college.

The Principles of Animation : Qualified candidates should have solid knowledge of the principles of animation, knowledge of frame-by-frame hand drawn animation, 2D digital animation production, basic history of animation, and experience producing short animated films that demonstrate the principles of 2D animation. This is a hand drawn 2D animation class and must be taught using traditional animation discs and peg bars.

Animation Pre-Production : Expertise in storyboarding and creating concept art for animation, an understanding of character design principles, a knowledge of film history and film language, and experience in animation production pipelines.

Intro to 3D Computer Animation : Expertise in 3D animation using Autodesk Maya and a general understanding of all aspects of the CG pipeline, including: modeling, texturing, animation, rigging, digital cinematography and rendering. Scripting knowledge (MEL, python) is a plus.

2D Character Animation : Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of acting and performance in animation, the principles of animation, 2D digital animation production, and basic history of animation. This is a hand drawn 2D animation class and must be taught using the traditional animation discs and peg bars.

History of Animation : Expertise in art history, film history and animation history ( US and International).

3D Landscape : Expertise in 3D animation using Autodesk Maya and generalist understanding of all aspects of the CG pipeline, including: modeling, texturing, animation, rigging, digital cinematography and rendering. Must be familiar with techniques and processes for designing and constructing 3D environments. Scripting knowledge (MEL, python) is a plus.

Stop-Motion : Expertise in stop-motion animation and techniques such as paint on glass, sand animation, cut-out animation, and claymation. A working knowledge of basic armature and puppet fabrication is necessary.
