Part-time Work

Part-time and temporary work can be a godsend in the acting profession. As well as helping towards the rent it gives you a greater degree of flexibility to attend those all-important interviews and auditions. The obvious drawback with part-time work is that it's not going to let you live like a king or queen. Part time jobs usually pay pro rata, so your income will be substantially less than if you were working full time. Common part-time work is bar work, waitressing and hostessing. Because of the shift nature of this work you can often fit in auditions around your work commitments, or swap shifts with a colleague.

As well as registering with temping and promotions agencies (see below) and role-playing (see the section on Role-Playing & Corporate), there are a number of other avenues you can pursue such as market research (which often pays cash in hand, typically £30-50 for 1 - 1.5 hours) and mystery shopping.
