The top 10 movies to look forward to in 2018

Here a list of some of the most prominent movie releases coming in 2018 – hand picked for you by Mandy News.

Mary Poppins Returns
Emily Blunt has some big, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious shoes to fill as Mary Poppins in this sequel to the 1964 Disney classic. Set in depression era London, we catch up with a grown Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) who have suffered a personal loss and receive a visit from everyone's favourite nanny. With a cast including Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Dick Van Dyke, it seems Disney are pulling out all the stops to make this a perfect sequel.

Deadpool 2
The Merc with a Mouth returns in 2018! Foul-mouthed and bloody, Deadpool was a huge hit and the first adult comic book movie to really hit big at the box office. The sequel will see Ryan Reynolds return as Deadpool – a role apparently custom made for him – alongside Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beatz as Domino. Despite a few production setbacks – with original helmer Tim Miller leaving – director David Leitch (John Wick) has taken the reigns and all seems well, although little is currently known about the plot.

The Predator
Written by Shane Black, who is responsible for some of the most snappily written titles of the last 20 years (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys), hopes are high that The Predator can reignite the publics interest in the classic action horror monster following many cross-over movie missteps. Word from the set is that the film is both hilarious and grisy in equal measure, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Avengers: Infinity War
More superheroes than you can shake a really, really big stick at are coming to our screens in Avengers: Infinity War this year and it's going to be epic. There are rumours of some fan favourites kicking the bucket – if you know the comics, you've probably got an idea of what to expect – and the ever-expanding gang finally face their biggest foe – Thanos.

Ready Player One
Steven Spielberg brings the much-loved book of the same name to the big screen. It's 2045 and much of the world spend their time engrossed in a virtual world called OASIS – when the world's creator dies and bequeaths control of the virtual world, along with a $240 billion fortune, to whoever manages to find a hidden Easter egg in it. The trailer looks incredible and we can't wait to see Spielberg do Sci-Fi again for the first time since – ahem – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return, as do an island full of dinosaurs in what will surely be one the highest earners of 2018. The plot centres on a post-Jurassic Park era, where the island has been abandoned by people, taken over by dinosaurs and left free to roam. When a volcano threatens their existence, though, a rescue is put together to save the dinosaurs from another extinction.

Alita: Battle Angel
James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic) and Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids) have joined forces - combining the tech from Avatar, and style from the graphic novel Alita: Battle Angel. Come July we're set to see a hyper-stylised, steampunk future world filled with battling cyborgs and much more. Alita, played by Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner),  looks like some kind of cyborg Pinocchio and has been given eerily large, CGI eyes. The whole thing looks crazy, weird and awesome.

The Incredibles 2
We only had to wait 14 years, but finally The Incredibles are returning. The Pixar original followed a family of superheroes forced into hiding after a class action lawsuit meant they were no longer able to serve the public. The sequel sends Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) back into the the fray, while Bob (Craig T Nelson) has to stay home and look after the kids.

Solo: A Star Wars Story
This Han Solo spin-off has endured its fair share of production woes, with The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller being asked to leave due to creative differences, losing an editor and an alleged last minute acting lesson for it's star, Alden Ehrenreich. How good this will be is definitely up in the air, but who can deny that a stand alone Han Solo film is something fans have wanted for years?

The Isle Of Dogs
Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Fantastic Mr. Fox) returns to the world of stop motion animation with this oddball comedy about a futuristic vision of Japan where an outbreak of canine flu causes all dogs to be banished to a rubbish dump island. It looks to be standard Anderson fare which is no bad thing. Expect a delightful soundtrack, quirky characters and Bill Murray.
