The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is the oldest national broadcasting organisation in the world, forming in 1922. The BBC is financed by households with a TV licence (around £75 per year) and because of this it is not beholden to shareholders or advertisers. As a publicly owned company it is able to create high quality programming and services for members of the public that may not usually be catered for.

The BBC has a broad remit which leads it to operate across multiple platforms and mediums; these include:

  • Television
  • Radio: local & national
  • Childrens': TV & online
  • News: TV, Radio & online
  • Online services
  • Music: orchestras & new talent
  • Education: broadcasting, music, drama and film
  • Charity: Children In Need

The BBC's ongoing mission is to 'enrich people's lives with great programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain'. It has a reputation for being creative & trustworthy. It's reach extends far beyond the shores of the UK, with the BBC World Service which broadcasts in more than 40 languages and reaches more than 210 million people per week. The BBC also exports some of its most popular shows, such as:

  • Doctor Who
  • The Bodyguard
  • Planet Earth
  • Sherlock
  • Top Gear (before its stars moved to Amazon Prime Video)

The BBC operates primarily out of two London based properties Broadcasting House in Portland Place & the BBC White City complex in Shepherd's Bush.

The BBC is the world's largest broadcaster with over 35,000 employees. You can see below that a lot of Mandy members have had BBC jobs. If you would like to work alongside talented professionals like these sign up for a Mandy account today.
